#ALookBackOn | UCL Student Centre, Bloomsbury – 2018

We recently revisited a project that pushed every aspect of delivery – the UCL Student Centre in Bloomsbury⬇️

A 6-storey (plus double basement) reinforced concrete frame right in the middle of a live student environment, surrounded by existing & listed buildings. Tight logistics, limited footprint & zero room for error.

From the outset, the challenges were clear:
🚧Deep excavation for a double basement in a constrained urban site
📚Managing works within a live student area perimeter
🧱Delivering a full RC frame with a high-quality fair-faced concrete finish throughout
🏗️Coordinating everything from pile mat installation and drainage through to roof-level structural works

The project went on to be Highly Commended at the Concrete Society Awards (2019), a real nod to the quality of the exposed concrete finish achieved🙌

A great example of what can be delivered through strong planning, collaboration & attention to detail on complex city-centre builds.
