We are incredibly honoured to announce that J Coffey Construction has won ‘Best Specialist Contractor’ at the prestigious Life Sciences & Research Cluster Awards.

The judges commended our “outstanding technical expertise and deep sector-specific knowledge.” They noted our ability to deliver “complex, mission-critical structures to the highest standards, reflecting both precision and reliability.” This praise specifically acknowledges our work on projects like The Daubeny Project at The Oxford Science Park, the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre (EPAC), our current Vulcan 20-20 project at Harwell, and our redevelopment at Judd Street.

This recognition is a powerful testament to our 30-year legacy, built on the dedication of our team and our commitment to pushing boundaries. The judges also specifically praised our clear commitment to sustainability, noting how we are “pushing boundaries in material selection and actively engaging with circular economy principles.” This focus on responsible construction, alongside our standout technical achievements, has shaped our impressive and diverse portfolio in the life sciences sector.

Life Science Building in Canary Wharf

Exciting progress on site at 17 Columbus Court where the existing building is being repurposed into cutting-edge labs and offices for the life sciences and technology sector!

Working in collaboration for Morgan Sindall Group plc, we’re making great strides:

✅Facade Removal: Nearing completion at 95%!
✅Slab Creation: Demolition is well underway to create the structural support for the new facade elements.

We’re also proud of our commitment to sustainability! By partnering with Saint-Gobain to recycle the removed glass, we’ve achieved substantial carbon savings in the process. Full Report to follow. 🌱

Progress at Vulcan: Demolition Phase Complete

Our team has now completed the demolition works for our client, Mace on the Vulcan project.

This represents a key step forward in the development of this significant scientific facility, which will house the world’s most powerful laser.

This new infrastructure is being established at the Science & Technologies Facilities Council’s Central Laser Facility, a centre known for its leading work in laser science. The Vulcan upgrade will further enhance the CLF’s capabilities in this field.

Well done to everyone involved in both the J Coffey Group and Mace teams for their work in reaching this stage.

Biodiversity Week on Dublin Data Centre!

Celebrating Biodiversity Week, the J Coffey team at our Pure Dublin data centre site took action for local ecosystems.

We procured custom native wildflower seed packets, featuring the J Coffey logo, for distribution on site – fostering biodiversity even in urban construction.

Our skilled carpenters also upcycled waste wood into unique flowerpots, now vibrant with a variety of flowers, showcasing our team’s sustainable ingenuity.

These initiatives create vital pockets of biodiversity and highlight the importance of native plants. We are proud of our team’s commitment to environmental integration

Congratulations to George and Andrei, who have received well-deserved recognition for their commitment to safe practices while working in confined spaces.

Marking a pivotal moment at The Oxford Science Park!

Today we celebrate the Topping Out of Building 3 at the Daubeny Project, a key development in the park’s expansion. J Coffey is proud to be at the forefront, delivering vital infrastructure for Mace and contributing to the future of life sciences for The Oxford Science Park (TOSP)

Our progress since November 2023 and to completion includes:

✅ Extensive earthworks: 40,000m³ of bulk excavation completed.
✅ Significant structural progress: 34,000m³ of reinforced concrete poured.
✅Key structural elements: Installation of 46 precast stairs and 14 reinforced concrete cores.

Innovation in construction also means a focus on sustainability:

✅ Leading in waste management: 100% diverted from landfill.
✅ Maximising resource efficiency: 94% waste recycled.
✅ Driving down emissions: 36% CO₂ savings through smart material choices like GGBS.
