#ProjectUpdate | Calvert Green Overbridge

We have successfully completed the installation of the beams for HS2’s Calvert Green Overbridge, in Buckinghamshire!📢

Each beam required a meticulous effort from everyone on site to effectively manage working-at-height & demonstrate our commitment to safety-led delivery🏗️

A great example of teamwork & planning across the Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) & the Kier Group Infrastructure team, ensuring a safe & efficient operation🦺

CCS National Site Awards!

Proud moment for the team on 105 Judd Street as we were recognised with a CCS Award for our approach to considerate construction 👏

Working on demolition in a busy Central London setting brings a responsibility to manage works with care & consideration.

At Judd Street, the focus from day one was clear:
🏘️ Operating within a dense residential neighbourhood
🔇 Minimising noise, dust & disruption wherever possible
🚧 Maintaining safe, clean & well-managed site boundaries
🤝 Proactively engaging with neighbours & stakeholders throughout

The project itself involved significant structural demolition, including removal of the existing roof & internal elements, alongside full basement slab demolition, all while retaining a large proportion of the existing building.

What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that it reflects the day-to-day behaviours on site: the planning, communication & care taken by the team to ensure works progressed responsibly & respectfully 🗣️

A great example of how strong site management & the right culture can make a real difference on complex urban projects.

Well done to everyone involved!

Works Underway: 68-71 Newman Street

We’ve officially kicked off on-site for Galliford Try, delivering the substructure & superstructure for this major refurbishment re-joining Newman Street with Berners Mews🏗️

Collaborating closely with our client from day one was key to locking in the programme. That initial teamwork has paid off, putting us well ahead of schedule as we hit the ground running🙌

Site Progress:
– Roof demolition has commenced
– Basement piling is flying, thanks to early collaboration between Galliford Try, GSS Piling Ltd & J Coffey
– Logistics are in full swing with Coveya Ltd supporting material distribution

The finished scheme will deliver seven floors of Grade A office space, a two-storey steel extension & new rooftop terraces🌿

Great to be working alongside V7 & the Southern Construction Framework on this one🤝

Leadership Development Training Programme with People Unboxed

We’ve just finished our Leadership Development Training Programme with People Unboxed✅

The programme ran over six months from last October, during a period when our industry has continued to present significant challenges. That made the focus of this development work even more valuable; supporting our leaders to adapt, remain resilient & lead diverse teams with different styles, strengths & motivations.

The sessions covered:
🔸Leadership Approaches
🔸Communication
🔸Delegation
🔸Motivation
🔸Difficult Conversations & Conflict
🔸Time Management & Productivity

Participant feedback has been extremely positive with many practical insights already being applied day to day, particularly when navigating change & complexity. An impactful learning experience & a meaningful investment in our people.

A big thank you to Kate Peters for delivering the programme with such energy & insight and to People Unboxed for being such a fantastic partner throughout 🙌

#ALookBackOn | One Bedford Avenue, Bloomsbury

We recently revisited the redevelopment of One Bedford Avenue in the heart of Bloomsbury!🔎

Integrating calcite concrete within the high-pressure environment of a slipform build was not the industry norm in 2016, but it proved that balancing technical precision with environmental responsibility was possible and we have built on this experience over the years to continue to deliver carbon savings and innovation where possible.

Our scope included:
– Slipform cores
– Basement excavation
– Demolition of existing concrete slabs
– Temporary works
– RC retaining walls
– Below‑ground drainage

It serves as a great reminder that the small, sustainable choices we make today are the ones we’ll be proud of a decade later, a testament to everyone involved in the project.

The Digital Construction Awards

KOVA KX: 105 Judd Street Topping Out

Last Thursday we celebrated the Topping Out of KOVA KX: 105 Judd Street for our clients AshbyCapital & Native Land. A major milestone delivered through exceptional teamwork, collaboration & innovation👏

Our journey with this project began in 2022 & since the first soft strip in 2023 the team has transformed a complex brief into an exemplar of sustainable construction. By retaining 75% of the existing structure, reusing materials & recycling at scale, the project is on track to achieve BREEAM Outstanding♻️

A few highlights we’re incredibly proud of:
🔧 200 radiators salvaged for the College of North West London
🔄 4,000 carpet tiles reused
🏗️ Over 80 tonnes of steel repurposed for temporary works
♻️ The recovered glass from the project contributed to J Coffey becoming the UK’s largest provider of glass for recycling in the UK

Throughout the build, we’ve also worked closely with local residents, earning two Considerate Constructor Awards along the way.

A huge thank you to our clients, design partners & the J Coffey team whose dedication has shaped this project, particularly those who went above & beyond to meet the engineering, structural & sustainability challenges on this site🙌

As we complete our phase, we’re proud to hand over to McLaughlin & Harvey and wish them every success with the next chapter of this fantastic development.

Careers Fair – Grace Connor

Earlier this week, Grace Connor returned to her former secondary school to take part in a Careers Day event, where she spoke to students about her role as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with J Coffey Construction👏

How the day worked:
❓The sessions were run in a carousel format, with each group of students first trying to guess Grace’s job title through a series of questions. At the end of each rotation, Grace revealed her role and shared an insight into what a typical working day looks like for her.
🗨️The students then had the opportunity to ask questions whereby Grace spoke about the benefits of apprenticeships including on-the-job learning, her own enrolment journey, advice on preparing for interviews & the key skills valued within the construction industry.

Grace said it was a fantastic opportunity to return to the school she once attended & give students a real insight into what a Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship can offer👷‍♀️

Well done Grace. Your passion & dedication is truly valued & admired within the team.

Women in Construction Week!

For Women in Construction Week, we caught up with the team on our Data Centre and Substation project to see this year’s theme “Level Up, Build Strong” in action.

From the 30,000m³ basement excavation, piling, and enabling works to the full concrete package, including raft slabs, basement walls, and SR2 finishes, this project covers a large scope of works.

With Aoife O’Neill driving the engineering on-site and Rachel Corcoran putting in the hours for her MSc in Quantity Surveying, the standard is being set high.

Building Futures!

A massive well done to Kai, Arthur, Costel, and Valentin! Our incredible team volunteered a combined 170 hours at Constructionarium UK with Mace guiding the next generation of construction enthusiasts at Imperial College London.

They mentored students in recreating life-size mini models of iconic UK structures like the Gherkin, Millau Viaduct, Canopy Roof, and Kingsgate Footbridge. Helping out with everything from design and engineering to the final construction of these impressive models.

The results speak for themselves!

Well done to everyone involved for their dedication to this real hands-on approach to learning.
