14th J Coffey Health and Safety Forum

Last week marked a significant milestone for J Coffey as we hosted our 14th quarterly health and safety forum.

This latest forum proved to be particularly insightful, thanks to the participation of guest speaker: John Dowling MSc, CMIOSH of Balfour Beatty plc. Sharing his expertise and, notably, his enthusiastic outlook on the paramount importance of “getting people home safe” every single day. His passionate message resonated strongly with our teams, reinforcing the collective responsibility in upholding the highest safety standards across all operations.

John noted that over the past five years of our working relationship with Balfour Beatty, J Coffey has achieved zero lost time incidents. “That is something that J Coffey should be extremely proud of!”

The company extends our sincere thanks to John for his time and inspiring contribution. His dedication to ensuring everyone returns home safely aligns perfectly with J Coffey’s core values and reinforces our commitment to the well-being of our workforce.

Contractor of the Month Recognition at North London Hyper Scale Data Centre Project.

Our Data Centre Division have received ‘Contractor of the Month’ award for their involvement in the Data Centre Project at Staples Corner, presented by Mace.

Sean McDonagh – Contracts Manager, acknowledged the team’s efforts, noting, “The team work hard, and we place a strong emphasis on Health & Safety.This reflects our collective commitment to ensuring a safe and productive environment on site.”

Double Safety Win for Powergate

Our Data Centre Team at Powergate have celebrated a double victory for its commitment to health and safety, securing two recent Mace awards. The first is the Mace Monthly Safety Award, with the client commending the team’s efforts and the “major part” safety plays in the project’s success.

Adding to this, Ilmi and Iulian received the Mace Monthly Award for Individuals, recognising their outstanding contributions to maintaining high safety standards.

These two awards highlight Powergate’s comprehensive approach to safety, acknowledging both team dedication and individual excellence in ensuring a safe working environment.

Calvert Green Overbridge

Our J Coffey Infrastructure team, working on behalf of client Kier Group successfully poured a monumental 400 cubic meters of concrete to form the central pier of the Calvert Green Overbridge structure for the HS2 project.

The successful pour represents a major milestone in the construction schedule, demonstrating the team’s expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality structures for the infrastructure needs of the UK. The accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit of the J Coffey Infrastructure team.

Demolition Begins at 17 Columbus Court: A Focus on Safety and Sustainability

The demolition phase at 17 Columbus Court, for our client Morgan Sindall Group plc is officially underway, marking a significant step in the building’s transformation.

A key highlight was the arrival of City Lifting Limited mobile crane, which commenced the delicate and precise removal of the building’s facade. We are particularly excited to track and report on the carbon emissions savings achieved by recycling the glass back into the construction process with our trusted supplier Saint-Gobain. This initiative reflects a growing industry-wide push towards sustainable demolition practices and a circular economy.

Working alongside the Department for Work and Pensions, Adrian Clamp and Christopher Wellgreen recently attended the Westminster Job Centre.

The team spent the day engaging with job seekers, providing valuable insights into potential career pathways within the construction industry.

This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between available opportunities and individuals seeking employment, making construciton an accesible route for everyone.

A successful Careers & Inspiration Fair, aimed at Sixth Form and Year 9 students at The St Marylebone School, provided valuable insights into various career paths.

In collaboration with Mace, representing the construction industry, the event fostered engaging conversations about job roles, required qualifications, and essential skills.

Congratulations to Bajram Skeja on achieving the prestigious Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)!
